Sierra Phương-Thảo Deaton, simply known as Sierra Deaton is an American singer, songwriter and dancer, who became famous as half of the pop group Alex & Sierra after winning the final season of The X-Factor US in 2013.
Early Life
She was born on February 11, 1991, in Philadelphia, PA, USA. She was born to father Dr. John Deaton and mother Vu Deston. She has a sister named Lara Deaton. Her father was British and her mother was a Vietnamese. Sierra holds American citizenship but ethnicity is a mix of Caucasian and Asian.
She attended the Lake Howell High School and then joined the University of Central Florida located in Florida and graduated from there.
Career
Alex and Sierra win the X-Factor!
She began her career as a singer after participating in The X-Factor along with her then-boyfriend Alex Kinsey in 2013. The couple gave their auditions and got selected. They sang famous songs like You’re The One That I Want and won the heart of their judges. Their performance gained more and more support and became internationally recognized. They performed a cover of Best Song Ever in front of One Direction on the X-Factor when the group visited as guests. They made their way to the final round and they sang three songs ‘Give me Love’, ‘Say Something’ and ‘Bleeding Love’ with Leona Lewis. Then after singing ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You‘, the pair have announced the winners of the season 3 on December 19, 2013.
After the finale, the pair released their first single ‘Scarecrow’ and then other singles like ‘Just Kid’, ‘Bumper Cars’, and ‘Here We Go’. Moreover, they also released their extended play on September 30, 2016.Both, Sierra and Alex both are still doing very well in their career after their separation as well.
Alex and Sierra announced on Twitter on September 1, 2017, that they had broken up a year before and had attempted to remain friends. However, they realized that it was time for them to stop making music together and instead focus on their own careers. The cause for the breakup has not been disclosed.
Following the split of Alex & Sierra, Deaton began releasing music under the stage name, Essy. On 16 February 2018, Deaton released her debut solo single "Don't Hurt". She has since co-written songs and provided backing vocals for artists, including 5 Seconds of Summer for "Lover Of Mine". Deaton is currently signed as a songwriter for Unknown Music Publishing and Kobalt Music Group

Deaton is openly bisexual. In 2018, Sierra began dating Luke Hemmings. Sierra is also a very good friend to Ashton Irwin and he introduced her to Luke. The couple announced their engagement on June 8, 2021 as confirmed on Instagram.
