It was written by Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford, Andrew Watt, Ali Tamposi, Nathan Perez, and Donna Lewis. The song was released via Interscope Records on 5 February 2020 as the third single on their fourth studio album, CALM.

On "No Shame", 5SOS sings about infatuation the current society has molded to seek fame and attention on the internet, and real life. The song is their first single of 2020, and acts as the third single for the band’s upcoming album, CALM, announced on the same day of the track’s release.
The track was teased in the background of promotional material for the album, each member posting a video on social media ending with their first initial, forming the album’s name. The band also named their 2020 world tour after the song. A No Shame Live From the Vault version was added to the deluxe album later.
