One Direction are a British-Irish boy band which rose to fame after finishing third on the seventh season of The X Factor in the UK.
It was band member Louis Tomlinson who first noticed 5 Seconds of Summer on YouTube, and tweeted the link to their song, "Gotta Get Out", saying that he had been a fan of the band for a while.[1]
After that, 5 Seconds of Summer joined One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour in 2013 as an opening act. They again opened for them on the American and European leg of their Where We Are Tour, which kicked off in May 2014.
The 1D boys have promoted 5SOS lots of times on Twitter.[2][3] Zayn once drew the 5SOS boys and tweeted a picture of the drawing.[4] Fans even joke that Niall may be the biggest fan of 5SOS.
