In June 29th 2021, Luke Hemmings tweeted a video with a website (which turned out to be a website for his solo music) and posted some photos on Instagram, both with the caption "Tomorrow 9pm PT." He also posted a reel on Instagram with the caption "Starting Line," which sparked speculation about what would happen the following day.
When the first single, "Starting Line," was released the following day, it was confirmed that Luke's solo album would be titled When Facing The Things We Turn Away From. The track list for the album, which is set to be released on August 13th, has also been released.
Luke is the second member of his band to release solo music. Ashton Irwin, his bandmate and drummer of the band 5 Seconds of Summer released the single "Skinny Skinny" in September 2020, leading up to the release of the Superbloom album in October of that year.
